Did Einstein say that? Is time?
In the eye? Of the beholder? So
I'm four weeks into the rehearsal
                         of Streetcar in this hole-in-the
wall theater in Omaha, and I'm
running one of my scenes with
                         Mitch. It's not working. He's
                         stubbly. I don't like stubble.
And I'm idly wondering why I
accepted a gig in a state where
there's no sushi, and Nick just
looks in my eyes and says, "Could
it be? You and me?" And all
around me, all the noise and
                         traffic in the city instantly
                         stopped, just frozen there, and
                         airplanes gleamed motionless in the
sky, and the rivers slowed to tepid
ice. And not one living thing
moved or breathed. And in that
silence I could hear the heartbeat
of the earth... Some unknown time
later, Nick and his stubble left
the theater for a burger, and I sat
in the empty theatre with my
                         questions: What did I just
                         experience? Dear God? Is time?
                         In the eye?
