So this Black Eyed Peas song
Boom Boom Pow is getting overplayed to death on TV and radio right now. The
lyrics are all about how original and futuristic this song is. The song is an unmodified
Bo Diddley beat, which is the oldest and most copied syncopation in
all of rock and roll. The beat is also called a "
son clave" or "3-2 clave" and it is also common to Cuban, Argentinian and African music.

Heh. Unsurprising. It's Rowan's favorite song right now--he's playing it to death--and I fear overexposure may be warping our chromosomes....
i can't wait till the day i can launch a song by touching a computer screen! or sing a song in a synthesized voice like a robot! the future is exciting!

If it's so overplayed to death, why have I never heard it? Now their other song of "Let's get this party started" is overplayed.
This is where I need to say that I find that song, like many of the Black-Eyed Peas' single, completely irresistible. Yes, everyone makes fun of them, and I have to laugh when I hear Fergie shout, "Will.i.am, drop the beat now!" But there's so many catchy things in the song, from the kick drum beat, to the processed voices saying "Boom boom boom" in octaves, to, yes, the catchy line, "I'm so 2008; you're so 2000-and-late," and so many completely bizarre thing, that I'm still not sick of hearing it.
Besides, if you've heard their first album, where they were trying (and failing) to be a serious hip-hop group, you'd have to admit that their silly pop is way better!
I also like to imagine that they have a sense of their own ridiculousness.
